If you perform a ritual at a bad time, but you still have success, then that means you
have raised quite a bit of energy.
It also means you would have had even more success, or it would have manifested much more quickly or easily, if it was timed well.
Timing is tricky. To time a ritual well, you have to pay attention to many things.
First of all, you have to pay attention to your own general astrology. If you don’t have your chart, get it. Once you have it, look at your transits.
If you want to do rituals to gain a shitload of money, it is not going to work too well when Saturn is squaring your Venus.
The other thing is, if you are doing a ritual that involves someone else or is meant to
affect someone else, then you would do well to know THEIR astrology as well. The same principles apply as above.
Then, there are the planetary days and hours. Which is another discipline within astrology.
This is determined according to the Chaldean system (The Chaldean disciplines are the Greek systems which they based on Sumerian mathematics).
Once again, if you are trying to get a shitload of money, DO NOT do the ritual on Saturday (unless there are a lot of other positive things happening on that day that would help you), and NEVER do such a ritual during the hour of Saturn.
This is because Saturn rules contraction and limitations.
The only exception in this example would be if you absolutely have no other chance to do it. But that’s “scraping the bottom of the barrel” so to speak.
Then, the last thing I will mention specifically is the Moon.
Which, of course, is also astrology.
But if you are trying to gain money – same example – do it while the Moon is
waxing (waxing is when the Moon increases in light – this is the time for increase, as
opposed to waning, when the moon is on its way from Full to New, which is the time for destruction and elimination).
Also if you can, do it when the Moon is in, say Taurus is best or Libra is also good.
Most signs will be ok but don’t do such a spell when the moon is in Capricorn. No way.
Then you would also want to watch out for where Venus is if you’re doing a ritual for
money, as Venus rules money! Jupiter’s position could help or hurt as well (the other
planet of money as it rules expansion and is the opposite of Saturn), and also Saturn specifically. This is just one example.
If you had to name any 2 planets in our star system and say, “These 2 planets are the greatest opposites in The Solar System” it would virtually undoubtedly be Jupiter and Saturn.
And perhaps most importantly, NEVER do a ritual that you want to produce results when the Moon is Void of Course.
As you can see, timing has a lot of variables.
Why is darkness better than light? Why is nighttime better than the day?
Well for a couple of reasons.
First of all, to a large degree, this is individual. Some people do better during the daytime. Experiment and see if you do rituals better in the day or at night.
But generally, nighttime is preferable for a few reasons.
First of all, witchcraft is of the darkness. This is because when you cast a spell, you are using subtle energies (magick) to work a goal.
The darkness is feminine and subtle. Light is masculine and overt and reveals all, immediately and without hesitation.
Most spells that are worked, however, the mage wants those spells to work “behind the scenes” so to speak.
Smoothly and without anyone really noticing, until it finally manifests.
This corresponds to darkness, where things are hidden, more than light. Also, the darkness and The Moon correspond to the subconscious, the instincts, and the feeling nature, which are the parts of the mind used in magick, whereas light and the Sun correspond to the consciousness, the intellect, etc.
This is why the Greek Goddess of Witchcraft was Hekate who was the 3rd Goddess of the Moon, specifically the New Moon.
She is powerful.
Second of all, most people are asleep or more inactive at night, meaning that their
energies are less likely to conflict with yours while you are working the spell.
Imagine trying to open a ritual and rush hour is going on outside your window.
Not only is there all the noise to contend with, the cars, the traffic, but there is the psychic energy of those humans, all with their own intentions and goals, right outside. That doesn’t really help.
The nighttime tends to be quieter.
Not only in terms of over physical sound, but also in terms of psychic energy itself.
But, once again, you should experiment.
